Say Cheese

I LOVE photos! (P.S. I also LOVE getting postcards, which are really just amazing photos, so please send me one.)

When looking for my latest volunteer project, I thought I’d see if I could find one centered on a hobby of mine…photography.  Last year my husband got me a basic SLR camera and I joke that and I’ve been documenting his life ever since.  I’m always behind the lens so we now have many more photos of him than me.

I stumbled upon a posting from Habitat for Humanity that they needed photographers to go photograph a building day at one of their homes.  I shot the coordinator a note saying that I was by no means a “photographer” but that I had a nice camera and loved taking pics.  She said that I fill the requirements.  Perfect!

I headed out to the worksite right before lunch to find a wonderful group of people working on a brand new home.  The volunteers were all from Simpson StrongTie; a company dedicated to the Habitat for Humanity cause.

I tried to stay out their way as they put this house together, piece by piece. It was amazing to capture these generous individuals taking time to assist an amazing organization build a home for what I can only imagine is some very special people.

There were a lot of great take-aways from this experience, but the laughter and smile on the volunteers’ faces was just maybe one of the best.

I’d love to see a photo of your volunteer experience.  Email me jill@valueaddedmarketing.net
