Almost a year ago, my husband stood in our kitchen saying he wanted see the company he works for give back to the community more. My response was, "then create something great" and he did!
Yesterday I volunteered at the first 97.1 The Fan Youth Basketball camp, and it was indeed something great! One hundred kids joined together at the Vineyard Community Center to participate in a day full of instruction and of course a little competition. The morning was full of fundamentals from some of the great coaches in our community and even a couple amazing former OSU players (Jay Burson and Matt Sylvester). The kids were schooled at lunch by Scoonie Penn with a great talk about attitude and the afternoon wrapped up with two tournaments, one for the older kids and one for the younger.
As a volunteer, I helped my kids move from station to station all morning and then quickly transitioned into their coach for the afternoon. I'm proud to report my talented group took home the Championship! Oh yeah!!!
It was a wonderful event that couldn't have been put on without the great employees of 97.1 The Fan, the amazing facility and generous sponsors and volunteers.
Doing good, feels good and I'm so glad I got to be a part of it for the first challenge of my #50CharityChallenge. My husband and I have amazing friends who volunteered their time, they took off work to help and one even drove up from Cincinnati to help referee. When you surround yourself with great people, great things happen.
So in the end, I guess yesterday we were all champions....my friends.
